After the grand prix race in Mexico where Lewis Hamilton crossed the finish line in 4th place, he was crowned world champion formula 1 of 2018. He then joins the select company that ever five or more world titles formula 1 could write their name. The select group also consists of Juan Fangio who also won five world titles and Michael Schumacher who currently leads the way with seven world titles in the list of drivers with the most F1 world titles. Sebastian Vettel, his biggest competitor for the world title this year, was the first to congratulate Lewis Hamilton on his fifth world title.

Who is Lewis Hamilton?

We know Lewis Hamilton as Mercedes driver with number 44. The team where he has been driving as a Formula 1 driver since 2013. He has achieved four of his five world championships with the Mercedes team. He got his first world title at McLaren, the team where he participated in the McLaren young driver program from 1998 and nine years later he made his Formula 1 debut for McLaren.

At the age of 6 Lewis received a remote-controlled car from his father and then his interest in motorsport was piqued. It wasn't until his 8th that he got into his first kart and started driving on the Rye House Kart circuit, the circuit where Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson also raced. After two years of karting, Lewis already managed to win and was invited to the motorsport awards in 1995 where he asked Ron Dennis for an autograph. Lewis, who was not short on ambition, told Ron Dennis that he wanted to drive for McLaren. Ron also had an answer ready: Just call me in nine years. But it wasn't Lewis calling. Just three years later, Ron called to sign Lewis for McLaren. At the age of 13, he was the youngest driver to have a contract with a Formula 1 team. And the rest, of course, is history. Lewis has now been driving his Formula 1 season for 12 years, already with number 44 for a while, the number with which he was also very successful in carting.

Special guest role for Will Smith at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

The last race of 2018 in Abu Dhabi was won by Lewis Hamilton, a nice ending to a great racing season for Lewis. Mercedes had invited a special guest to the last race. None other than Will Smith waved the black and white checkered flag as Lewis crossed the finish line. A hilarious movie went around on the internet in which Will Smith kidnapped Lewis and claimed the Mercedes car. After all, Lewis already had the world title…

Scale model of Lewis Hamilton

If you want to keep the memory of the Formula 1 season alive, take a look at Lewis Hamilton's Minichamps scale model. A beautifully detailed scale model with 1:18 scale with of course number 44 on it. The number that is undeniably associated with the most successful driver at the moment. We can look back on a brilliant Formula 1 season where we have seen that the difference between Mercedes and Red Bull has narrowed over the season. Many people carefully hope that the new Formula 1 season will lead to great fights on the track between Lewis Hamilton and our Max Verstappen.
