Fernando Alonso, successful Spanish Formula 1 driver started on the go-kart track….

Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso Díaz was born on July 29, 1981 in Oviedo, Spain. Due to an unintentional action by his father José, the foundation of his racing career was already laid when he was only three years old. Father José, a go-kart fanatic, had built a kart for his eldest daughter Lorena. However, the only one who showed interest in the structure was his son Fernando. José adapted the kart to this, so that it became suitable for short toddler legs. The racing started in a playful way, but it quickly became clear that Alonso had more competitive spirit and more talent than the other kids on the go-kart track. He began to compete in the years that followed, which led to significant victories.

From Formula 3000 to Formula 1

During a kart race in Barcelona, Formula 1 driver Adrian Campos spotted him. He had Alonso test drive for the Nissan Team. Although Alonso crashed twice, he was soon at the level of a professional driver. In 2000 this led to participation in Formula 3000 for the Astromega team. He managed to put a number of victories to his name. He particularly impressed on the Belgian Spa-Francorchamps circuit

In the following racing season, Alonso signed a contract with the Minardi Team. He made his dream Formula 1 debut as a 19-year-old boy during the Australian Grand Prix. He did not score any points, but his qualifying runs were remarkably good and were noticed by other teams, such as the Renault Team. Alonso was appointed as a test driver there and in 2003 he became a full driver for Renault. In 2003, Fernando Alonso took his first victory at the Hungarian circuit.

After a number of great successes and team changes, Alonso finally ended up (again) with the McLaren Team in 2015. Initially the results were good, but towards the end of the season the results became more and more disappointing. In 2018 Alonso, who now had 32 victories to his name, announced that he would not participate in 2020 F1. His plan is to make a comeback in 2021 with the Renault team: the Alpine F1 team.

'Triple Crown of Motorsport' refers to motorsport achievement in which three prestigious car races are won. There is discussion about which three motorsport achievements are involved. Usually, the win is based on: The Grand Prix of Monaco, The 24 Hours of Le Mans. and the Indianapolis 500.

Fernando Alonso would like to be the second driver in the world to win this Triple Crown. The only one who managed to do this so far was Britain's Graham Hill in 1972. It's not an impossible dream as Alonso has already won the Monaco Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Now he would only 'have to' add the Indy 500 to it. In 2017 he competed in the Indy 500. He drove well, but did not finish.

In 2019 he just failed to qualify. The following year did not go as planned either. He will not participate in 2021 and 2022, because he wants to focus fully on Formula 1. In 2023 there is a chance for him to fulfill his dream of the Triple Crown.
