Lamborghini a brief history

Lamborghini luxury cars are produced by Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A, which is located in Sant’agata Bolognese. Volkswagen owns the company through its subsidiary, Audi. This company was formed in 1963 by a manufacturing magnate called Ferruccio Lamborghini to compete with Ferrari. The Italian manufacturer worked as a mechanic for the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He then started making tractors out of the leftover pieces from military hardware. His tractor company grew very fast and expanded to both boilers and air conditioning units by 1960. Ferruccio used a part of his wealth to purchase sports cars, mostly, Ferraris. However, he felt that Ferraris were a bit too rough to be used as road cars for they worked like repurposed racing vehicles. This is where the idea to build a better sports vehicle came to mind.

Early Models of Lamborghini

His first vehicle was a Lamborghini 350GTV, which was later altered to 350GT. He made 120 units of the car. It has a 3.5-litre capacity and ran on a V12 engine. He installed a five-speed manual transmission. The engine produced 270 horsepower and could accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.8 seconds. This feat proved impressive to sports car enthusiasts. The second model was a 400GT that was produced in 1965. It had a modified V12 engine, a better roofline design and 2+2 seating. It could take 3.9 litres and produce 320 horsepower. The success of the second model led the company to producing the Miura or the P400. This was a road car with racing attributes. It had a 3.9-litre V12 engine that could produce380 horsepower. Unlike the earlier cars, this one had air conditioning, bright chrome trim and power windows. This model saw 764 units go into production. In the later years, the company produced other models, including Islero, Espada, Jarma and Urraco. In recent years, it has produced Aventador, Veneno, Huracan and Urus SUV.

Lamborghini as motor supplier in Formule one

Lamborghini started supplying engines for Formula One racers from 1989 to 1993. It supplied to Ligier, Lotus, Modena, Larrousse and Minardi. Larrousse finished third in the Japanese Grand Prix, which was held in 1990. The company also designed the Konrad KM-011 Group C coupe that raced for a few races. A later version called Diablo was designed for Diablo supertrophy racing in 1996 and 1999. The most successful racing car to date is the Murcielago R-GT. This model was made exclusively for the FIA GT Championship. It also took part in the Le Man Series in America in 2004 finishing fifth. Later on, it took part in the Super GT Championships. One of its best performances was the FIA GT Championship that took place in Valencia and finished third. In 2006, an R-GT Lamborghini won the Japanese Suzuka championship. AMurcielago R-GT has also won the opening round of the FIA GT Championship that was held at Zhuhai International Circuit. The company has also created several racing bikes in the past with great success. Although the company is no longer actively involved in racing, several of its models continue to grace the racing circuits from individual owners.
