Charles Leclerc: a young and promising talent
Charles Leclerc was born on October 16, 1997 in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Born in this dwarf state known for its Grand Prix, his interest in Formula 1 is not surprising. After many years of successful karting, he started formula racing at a young age. He has already achieved a lot in his short career. The promising performances he has delivered so far must almost be a harbinger of more great successes.
From go-kart track to Formula 1
Charles Leclerc started karting at a young age. As a junior he already booked many victories in this branch of sport. In 2012 Charles Leclerc made the switch to KF2 and only two years later to Formula Renault 2.0. In Formula Renault 2.0 he was part of the Fortec Motorsports team. In total he achieved a podium finish seven times in this formula racing championship and eventually finished second. A year later he raced for the Van Amersfoort Racing Team in the European Formula 3 Championship. After winning four races, he finally took fourth place in this championship. In 2016 he made the switch to the GP3 Series and immediately became champion that season. The step to Formula 2 in 2017 is therefore no surprise, Leclerc has shown that he has a lot to offer and is ready for the next step! In Formula 2 he is part of the Prema Racing team and also takes first place there in his first participation. Leclerc's victories followed each other in rapid succession and it was therefore only logical that he could also show his talents in Formula 1.
Successes in Formula 1
In 2018 the time had come: Leclerc makes his debut in Formula 1. He drives for the Sauber team and achieved several top 10 rankings that season. A year later he replaced Kimi Räikkönen in the Ferrari team. His teammate at the time was Sebastian Vettel. He won his first victory in Formula 1 in 2019 at the Belgian Grand Prix. At the Grand Prix of Italy he wins a Grand Prix for the second time, immediately the weekend after his first victory. He eventually ends the 2019 Formula 1 season in fourth place and with a total of ten podium places and seven pole positions, he convincingly showed his talent that first season. The performance of this young and talented driver promises something for the future!
