Ferrari's Brief History

All over the world, Ferrari is known for the production of classy race cars which have dominated most race cars. You can’t think of sports cars without Ferrari coming into your mind. Purchased by Fiat group in 1969, Ferrari has continually improved to be one of the most successful car brands with a vast collection of both sports cars and road cars. Most of the Ferrari road cars originate from the Formula 1 race giving the company their strong presence in the supercar market. Some of their most famous cars include the Dino, 250 GTO, 288 GTO, F40, F 50 and Enzo.

Ferrari History

The history of the Ferrari brand started in 1929 when Enzo Ferrari created Scuderia Ferrari. Enzo Ferrari was a racing driver at Alfa Romeo and had a passion for building a fast race that would dominate the race tracks. His dream was to create race cars exclusively by upgrading the existing race cars. After starting the Scuderia Ferrari racing stable in 1929, Enzo Ferrari left Alfa Romeo but continued to upgrade racing cars without the inclusion of the brand name Ferrari. The racing stable was a privately owned racing team but was still working for Alfa Romeo. Scuderia was still tuning Alfa racing cars in the Ferrari shop in Modena and successfully built the Alfa Romeo 158 Grand Prix racer in 1937. This was also the year when Alfa stopped outsourcing the racing teams 1and Enzo Ferrari took the car and raced for ten years on his own.

The Success Story

-In 1940, the Ferrari Company moved from Modena to its current location in Maranello. The new company focused on developing its 12 – cylinder engine which would later add to its fame. The fastest car of the decade with a 12 – cylinder engine was Enzo Ferrari built first drove by Enzo Ferrari in 1947. The company would later add experienced engineers such as Lampedi and Jano to their payroll who started the road car project. The fame in the race worked for Ferrari road cars but road cars way mainly used as a source of funds for the Race cars. The first time for Ferrari to beat Alfa Romeo in the race was in 1952 with the Ferrari 375 model. The Ferrari 357 was introduced in the market in 1953, boosting the production of Ferrari cars from 70 to 80 cars in a year. By 1960, Ferrari was producing more than 300 cars in a year. Ferrari has dominated the Fi world championship with 38 out of 109 drivers winning at least one Grand Prix. One of the legendary drivers is Michael Schumacher who dominated the race a decade from 1996-2006. Schumacher won 72 Grands Prix out of the 187 he competed and won 5 world championship. Ferrari’s success in the race during this period contributed to the brand’s popularity.
