2020 delivered another World Cup title for Lewis Hamilton. His seventh title, equaling the legendary Michael Schumacher. Not art, you might think. Hamilton gets to drive the best car on the track: a real Mercedes Benz AMG. Absolutely true, but let's not forget that Lewis showed tremendous talent early on. So good that he eventually deserved a seat in that unique car.
A large part of the current Formula 1 drivers started karting at a young age. Our own Max Verstappen is a good example of that, but so is Lewis. At the age of eight, the Briton got into a competition kart for the first time. Two years later he already won his first national title.
Ultimately, this led to Lewis entering motorsport in 2001 and debuting in Formula 1 in 2007 for the British team McLaren. The young guts immediately showed that his talent was innate. He just missed out on the championship that year, but in 2008 it was hit. He took that title at the last race of the season.
In 2013, Lewis made the big switch from McLaren to Mercedes. A successful combination that is now good for six personal world titles. So are a whole host of other records, including a whopping 95 race wins.
Lewis took the last world title on the circuit in Turkey. Reason enough for Minichamps to transform the beautiful Mercedes Benz AMG 2020 with which he did this into a perfect scale model. A "must have" for every true racing fan. Currently in the making, but can already be ordered. In addition to the older Mercedes models, of course, and the scaled cars of other favorite Formula 1 drivers.
Winning seven titles led to Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton being recently knighted as Sir. A great honour, which ultimately fell to a reduced group of athletes. Including some other British Formula 1 stars, such as Jackie Stewart and Frank Williams. Standard bearers of the British kingdom.
Lewis certainly deserved that knightly title. Not only for its exceptional performance on the track, but also for its activities off it. In particular, we can think of his fight against global racism, #blacklivesmatter.
Despite the seven world titles and his British knighthood, Sir Lewis Hamilton continues to race. He was good for 11 wins and 14 podiums last year. He also still looks young, fresh and has indicated that he is extremely motivated to go for the highest title again.
Of course he knows that the competition is lurking. Perhaps more than ever. We can think of Max Verstappen, but also the talented Ferrari drivers Charles LeClerc and Carlos Sainz. There is even another Schumacher around the corner. The latter has no chance for the title, but who knows what this boy can already show on the track this year.
In any case, it will be an exciting year and we will often see Lewis Hamilton in action at the front in another beautiful Mercedes.
